Nasionalberita.com – A massive fire broke out at Hotel F2 Melawai on Panglima Polim Street, Melawai, Kebayoran Baru, from Thursday midnight to early Friday, August 17-18, 2023. It is believed that the fire was caused by a discarded cigarette butt.
This fire claimed at least 3 lives. Two of the deceased were an unidentified woman and a 42-year-old man named Hilal.
According to information obtained from the Fire Command Center, along with an interview with the on-duty officer from the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service, Sukur Sarwono, the fire incident occurred on the second floor of the hotel structure.
In addition to the three victims who died due to oxygen deprivation caused by smoke inhalation, there were also three other individuals who sustained injuries. They were Triyana (25 years old), Nadia (23 years old), and Firmansyah (27 years old). The injured individuals were immediately taken to Fatmawati Hospital.
“We received reports of the fire incident at 11:50 PM,” Sarwono stated on Friday, August 18, 2023. He explained that the burned area covered approximately 160 square meters. “The extent of the losses is yet to be estimated, but it is suspected that an unextinguished cigarette butt was the cause of this incident,” he added.
Information from the hotel management revealed that the fire originated from the cigarette butt, and the flames then spread fiercely as they reached items within the room. Observations from the scene indicated that the affected room lacked adequate ventilation, causing smoke to seep into the rooms on the second and third floors.
Firefighting efforts involved around 85 firefighters and were supported by 20 firefighting vehicles. The fire was finally brought under control around 02:40 AM.
