Nasionalberita.com – Surprising news emerges from former President of the United States, Donald Trump, as he now faces the possibility of a 561-year prison sentence. Trump himself predicted this sentence after the Department of Justice (DOJ) accused him of attempting to overturn the 2020 election results.
“It is reported that I am now facing a combined threat of 561 YEARS in prison,” Trump stated in an email.
“… due to the witch hunt from the Left,” he added.
Trump has been charged with three conspiracy charges, including defrauding the United States and obstructing the official process of certifying current President Joe Biden’s election victory.
Another charge states that he obstructed an investigation, as described in a 45-page indictment filed by special counsel Jack Smitch.
“The objective of this conspiracy was to cancel the legitimate results of the 2020 presidential election by spreading deliberately fabricated claims of election fraud,” reads the indictment.
In addition to these charges, Trump also faces a number of additional allegations related to his handling of classified material at Mar-a-Lago after leaving the White House, amounting to a total of 40 federal charges.
Furthermore, there are 34 charges from the Manhattan district attorney related to six-figure payments made by Trump’s former employee, Michael Cohen, to adult film star Stormy Daniels just before the 2016 election.
Not stopping there, Trump also faces the possibility of other charges accusing him of interference in the election process in Fulton County, Georgia.
Critics have previously accused the former president of using his campaign to evade prison time or raise funds for legal defense.
According to data from the Federal Election Commission, Trump’s political committee used campaign funds for legal expenses last year, including nearly half of the total $53 million raised in the first half of 2023.
In the United States, defendants typically do not receive the maximum prison sentence for all the crimes they committed, and sentences for different crimes can be served consecutively, limiting the total time spent in prison by the defendant.
