Nasionalberita.com – President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, is likely to face legal proceedings, US Special Attorney David Weiss has said. The statement came shortly after Weiss was promoted to Special Attorney last Friday.
This event created a new chapter ahead of the democratic party for the 2024 presidential election or presidential election. This is a milestone that has never happened in US records.
For the first time, the son of an incumbent president has been charged with criminal charges, while the father continues his campaign to reclaim the presidency.
Meanwhile, Biden has the potential to face Donald Trump from the Republican Party, the former number one person in the United States who has had to face up to three criminal trials.
Republicans in the House of Representatives are also hurling threats of an impeachment inquiry, responding to unproven claims that President Biden profited from his 54-year-old son’s business ventures.
Weiss, who has run investigations into Hunter Biden since 2019, filed criminal charges for taxes and minor weapons offenses last June. However, the proposed plea agreement was rejected by a federal judge. On Friday, Weiss noted in a court filing that attempts at mediation between the two sides had failed.
“The government is now of the opinion that this case will not reach a settlement point before the trial process,” the letter stated.
The filing comes shortly after US Attorney General Merrick Garland upgraded Weiss to special attorney status, giving him more powers and room to continue the investigation.
In July, Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty to a charge of evading tax payments on income exceeding US$1.5 million in the 2017-2018 period, despite having owed more than US$100,000 in taxes.
Nor did he enter a defense in a separate case in which he was charged with illegal possession of a firearm, while in possession of drugs, a crime he was accused of.
