Nasionalberita.com – Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Karyoto told the workers to take legal action, addressing Law 6/2023 on Job Creation (Ciptaker), instead of holding demonstrations until late at night.
This opinion was expressed by Karyoto after observing a demonstration held by a group of workers around the Horse Statue, Central Jakarta. The action lasts from morning to midnight.
“If you are not satisfied with the contents of the legislation, there is still the possibility of conducting a legal review. I invite you to use this option,” said Karyoto in Central Jakarta in the early hours of Friday (11/8).
Karyoto said that workers who are members of a trade union can appoint a lawyer to file a lawsuit against the substance of the law. Karyoto believes that the constitutional judges are able to make a wise decision regarding the lawsuit.
“It’s better than holding demonstrations all day long, from early in the morning until late at night, where I can only get information from the news. If my colleagues tell me, then I will know. That is if there is anything,” he said.
Overall, Karyoto pushed for a more civilized and effective approach to dealing with changing laws, calling on workers to take advantage of existing legal review processes as an alternative to demonstrations.
Furthermore, Karyoto also revealed that filing a lawsuit to the Constitutional Court was the most appropriate approach, far better than having to hold demonstrations.
“We also want to remind about the benefits of this step. Is there still tomorrow for this? Will the Constitutional Court stop operating tomorrow? The Constitutional Court is still standing tall, its judges are still available, and I believe that several unions are in the process of filing lawsuits through Constitutional Court,” he said.
Mass groups from the Million Workers’ Action Alliance (AASB) and the Joint Workers’ Movement of the People (Gebrak) who have held demonstrations until late at night near the Horse Statue, Central Jakarta, brought a series of demands.
One of the main demands they put forward was for the government to revoke Law no. 23/2023 concerning the Omnibus Law or the Job Creation Law.
They started their protest action in front of the International Labor Organization (ILO) Building, on Jalan MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta, by gathering since 11.40 local time.
