Nasionalberita.com – Currently, Bandung City is capturing attention due to concerns about its disappointing air quality.
The issue of alarming air quality in Bandung City is being extensively discussed across various social media platforms.
Bandung, usually known as the “City of Flowers,” has recently become a topic of conversation due to its position as the city with the worst air quality across Indonesia.
Facing the spotlight on this issue, the Monitoring Section Head of the Environmental Agency (DLH) of Bandung City, Irene Irmamuti, also provided a clearer picture.
Irene shared information that over the past week, the Air Pollution Standard Index (ISPU) in Bandung City has been categorized as “Moderate.”
In this context, the “Moderate” category signifies that the air quality level is still within acceptable limits for living beings, including humans, animals, and plants.
Irene explained the reasons why Bandung City’s ISPU has yet to be classified as “Good” or “Healthy,” remaining in the “Moderate” category.
As it turns out, besides the influence of vehicle emissions and industrial chimney smoke, air quality is also affected by extreme weather conditions that often afflict Bandung City.
“In this context, the aforementioned factors are influenced by the extreme weather usually accompanying the dry season in Bandung City,” she stated on Sunday (20/8/2023).
“Additionally, Bandung’s geographical location in a basin also contributes to the prolonged accumulation of pollution,” she continued.
The Bandung City DLH is making efforts to improve the air quality in the city, famously known as the City of Flowers. One of the steps involves encouraging the community to follow the four steps below:
- Wearing masks when in densely populated and dry areas to avoid dust exposure.
- Planting trees to reduce air pollution.
- Maintaining motor vehicles through regular tune-ups and vehicle emission tests.
- Avoiding burning waste in residential yards.
