Nasionalberita.com – Manchester United has found a serious admirer for Harry Maguire. However, the Red Devils aren’t only at risk of losing a player in the defensive line.
Teden Mengi, a young defender who also comes from the Manchester United academy, is currently in the spotlight in the transfer market. The French club Amiens has revealed its interest in loaning Mengi until the end of the 2023/2024 season.
“We are considering the loan offer from Amiens for Teden Mengi,” wrote European transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on his social media account.
Mengi, who is still 21 years old, made his debut in the first team when he replaced Timothy Fosu-Mensah in the Europa League match against LASK on August 5, 2020.
To support his development and provide him with more playing time, Manchester United has loaned Mengi to Derby County (2020/2021) and Birmingham City (2021/2022).
Previously, it had been reported that Manchester United had received an offer from West Ham United for Harry Maguire. They agreed to release their former captain for a transfer fee of around £30 million or approximately Rp580 billion.
ESPN reported that the decision is currently in Maguire’s hands. As previously reported, Maguire feels uncertain about moving to London Stadium and questions whether it’s the right career move for him.
Despite being 30 years old, Maguire feels that he still has the qualities to play for a bigger club. However, as of now, West Ham United is the only club that has made an offer.
This is a particular concern because Maguire needs playing time to secure his spot in the England national squad for Euro 2024, as stated by coach Gareth Southgate.
If he remains at Manchester United, Maguire might not get enough playing time. The central defensive duo positions are already occupied by Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.
He might even be relegated to a substitute role when one of them gets injured. Manager Erik ten Hag prefers to play Victor Lindelof or Luke Shaw.
Furthermore, Maguire’s role as the captain of Manchester United has been taken over by Bruno Fernandes.
Maguire joined Manchester United from Leicester City in 2019. Back then, his transfer fee was £80 million, making him the most expensive defender in history.
However, as time has passed, his performance has declined. Poor performances and frequent major mistakes have made him a target of criticism from the club’s supporters.
